Diversity survey of herpetofauna in Matoushan National Nature Reserve,Jiangxi Province,China
To grasp the current status of amphibian and reptile resources in Jiangxi Matoushan National Nature Reserve, amphibian and reptile surveys were conducted in July 2022 and June-July 2023,using the sample line method.A total of 49 species of amphibious reptiles were recorded, including 22 species of 2 orders and 8 families of amphibians and 27 species of 2 orders and 9 families of reptiles. There are 1 national second-class key protected species,10 key protected species in Jiangxi Province,13 Chinese endemic species, and 1 species each listed in Appendix I and Appendix II of the CITES Convention. There was a clear predominance of the Eastern Oceanic species in the composition of the zonal components, followed by the widespread species. The majority of amphibians were terrestrial-quiet-water type, the least were arboreal type and terrestrial-running water type.Eight new records were found in the reserve, which were Hyla immaculata,Rana zhenhaiensis,Polypedates megacephalus,Microhyla pulchra,Gekko hokouensis,Sphenomorphus incognitus,Scincella modesta and Oligodon chinensis. The Matoushan National Nature Reserve was rich in amphibian and reptile resources, but the summer drought problem in the past two years had affected the reproduction and migratory proliferation of amphibians and reptiles in the area, which needed to be a cause far conservation concern. The results of the survey enriched the basic information of amphibian reptile resources in Matoushan National Nature Reserve and provided scientific basis for amphibian reptile conservation.
