Impact of policy-supported agricultural insurance on soil erosion control achievement
This paper utilizes China's provincial panel data from 2009 to 2022 and employs a panel data fixed effect model to empirically explore the effect and mechanism of policy-supported agricultural insurance on the soil erosion control. The results show that policy-supported agricultural insurance plays a significant role in promoting soil erosion control achievement. This conclusion remains valid after several robustness tests such as replacing the measurement method of core variables, excluding four direct-controlled municipalities, using the system GMM method, and the instrumental variable method. From the regional point of view, the incentive effect of policy-supported agricultural insurance on soil erosion control achievement is particularly significant in western China. From the perspective of grain-producing areas, the promoting effect of policy-supported agricultural insurance on soil erosion control achievement is most obvious in the grain production-sales balance areas.Mechanism analysis reveals that policy-supported agricultural insurance can improve soil erosion control achievement mainly through poverty alleviation, agricultural prosperity, and financial inclusion. After a thorough analysis is conducted,it is suggested that policy-supported agricultural insurance should be included in the rural revitalization strategy, that poverty alleviation should be aligned with prevention of large-scale return to poverty, that regional development disparities should be integrated with optimizing primary industry structure, and that the reinforcement of a multi-level sustainable rural financial service system should be expedited.
