Effects of Plastic Film Mulching on Fruit Quality and Appearance of Satsuma Orange
In the orchard of six-year-old satsuma orange ( Citrus unshiu) trees, the bare land was covered with plastic film at 3 growth stages, and the effects of the mulching on the fruit quality and appearance of satsuma orange were studied. The results showed that: in comparison with the control, the mulching at fruit cell division stage or at earlier fruit mature stage increased the contents of total sugar, reducing sugar, and VC in fruits, and reduced the fruit titratable acid content, fruit size, pericarp weight and single-fruit weight. The mulching at fruit cell division stage could enhance the edible rate of fruits, but had no influence on fruit-shape index. The mulching at earlier fruit mature stage could decrease the fruit-shape index, but had no influence on the edible rate of fruits. The mulching at fruit cell expansion stage decreased the contents of total sugar, reducing sugar, and titratable acid in fruits, the edible rate of fruits, as well as the fruit size, pericarp weight, single-fruit weight and fruit-shape index. Therefore, the mulching at earlier fruit mature stage could improve the quality of fruits, but it had a certain negative influence on the appearance of fruits.
