Response Characteristics of Five Native Plants of South China to Salt Stress and Evaluation of Their Salt Tolerance
The morphological characteristics and physiological indexes of seedlings of Machilus breviflora, Erythor phleum fordii, Albizia julibrissin, Sterculia lanceolata and Barringtonia racemosa under salt stress were investigated .The seedlings were cul-tivated in pots that were treated with different concentrations of NaCl .The results showed that:(1) In the process of salt stress, the vulnerability of these five indigenous plants increased with the increase in NaCl concentration and in stress time at the same salt con -centration;after being treated with high concentration of NaCl for 30 days, the survival rate of Abli zia julibris in was as high as 90%, and that of Machilus breviflora, Sterculia lanceolata and Erythrophleum fordii was still more than 30%.( 2) Under the salt stress , the relative conductivity and MDA content of each species increased to some extent , and their soluble sugar and proline were accu-mulated.The soluble sugar content of most species first increased and then decreased .The proline content increased significantly , but there was a difference in its upward trend among different species .After salt stress , a significant rising could be seen in the con-centration of Na+and K+.( 3) According to the comprehensive evaluation results by using survival rate and membership function method , these 5 native plants were divided into four categories:Albizia jlu ibrissin and Sterculia lanec olata were strongly salt-tolerant plants;Machilus breviflora and Erythrophleum fordii were moderately salt-tolerant plants; Barringtonia racemosa was weakly salt-tolerant plant .
