Effects of Soaking Seeds with Lanthanum Nitrate on Seed Germination and Seedling Physiological Characteristics of Cotton under Salt Stress
Cotton seeds were taken as research materials in this experiment, and seed germination box culture method was used to study the effects of lanthanum nitrate solution with different concentrations(0,25,50,75 and 100 mg/L)on seed germination characteristics, antioxidant enzyme activity and osmoregulatory substance content under 150 mmol/L NaCl stress. The results showed that:(1)When NaCl was 150 mmol/L,cotton seed germination was inhibited, antioxidant enzyme activity and soluble protein content of cotton seeding decreased, and soluble sugar content and malondialdehyde content increased.(2)Soaking with 50 mg/L lanthanum nitrate had the most significant effect on the germination of cotton seeds under salt stress, with a significant increase in the germination potential, germination rate, germination index, embryonic root length, germination length and biomass.(3)Soaking with lanthanum nitrate could increase the activities of antioxidant enzymes during seeding growth under salt stress. With the increase of lanthanum nitrate concentration, the contents of POD,SOD and CAT first increased and then decreased, and the content of MDA first decreased and then increased. The antioxidant enzyme activities were strongest at a concentration of 50 mg/L.(4)The contents of soluble sugar, soluble protein and proline first increased and then decreased during germination of cotton seeding under salt stress when the concentration of lanthanum nitrate increased. The content of osmoregulatory substance was the highest when the concentration of lanthanum nitrate was 50 mg/L.In conclusion, soaking with lanthanum nitrate can improve the tolerance to salt stress during the germination period of cotton seeds and seeding growth, and the effect was the most significant when the concentration was 50 mg/L.
