The Political Network and the Dynastic Governance in the Southern Territories of the West-ern Zhou Dynasty
The Southern Territory of the Western Zhou Dynasty covered four political and geographical re-gions:the Nanxiang Basin, the Suizao Corridor, the Ruying River Basin, and the upper reaches of the Huaihe River, forming a dynamic political network in the political games between the Zhou Court and internal and external forces in the south and east.In the early Western Zhou Dynasty, the Southern Ter-ritory was centered around the Ruying River Basin and Suizao Corridor, constructing a relatively stable governance network. The vassal states Ying,Cai,and Zeng of surname Ji,along with states Hu,Chen, and E of other surnames, became the core states of the Southern Territory. In the mid Western Zhou Dy-nasty,this political network faced disintegration due to the impact of the Huaiyi ethnic group and the re-bellion of the Marquis of E.In the late Western Zhou Dynasty, through the re-layout of King Xuan,a new spatial network was formed, consisting of three pairs important states composed of Shen and E,Tang and Deng, and Xi and Fan,as well as core states founded in the early Western Zhou period. This en-sured the stability of the Southern Territory and effectively promoted the governance by the Zhou Court in more depth.
