Tool Axis Vector Generation for Multi-Axis Machining of Mesh Surfaces
When generate the NC codes of the multi-axis machining from the mash surfaces,the problem of the tool swing angle control exist.To solve this problem,a method of tool axis vector generation for the tool position coordinates is studied.Based on the data storage characteristics of the mesh surface,the calculation method and data characteristics of the tool position coordi-nates are analysis.The mechanism of tool swing angle control for multi-axis NC machining of the mash surfaces is researched,and a method that generates the tool axis vector of the tool position coordinates perpendicular to the part is proposed.Through the calculation and judgment on the angle between the tool position coordinates and the vertices of facet,the facet data corresponding to the tool position coordinates can be quickly retrieved,and the tool axis vector for multi-axis machining of the mesh surface can be directly generated by the normal vector of this facet.Finally,the tool axis vector data of the multi-axis machining from the mash surfaces can be generated by the computer programming.By using the CLSF manager in UG to simulate toolpath and the machining test in VERICUT,this proposed method is verified.The test result shows that the tool axis vector generated by this pro-posed method can effectively achieve the swing angle control and realize the multi-axis machining of the mesh surfaces.
