Effects of weighting agent on properties of high density white oil-based drilling fluid
With the increasingly severe environmental protection situation, low toxicity white oil-based drill-ing fluids are gradually widely used in unconventional oil and gas reservoir drilling, and there is less systemat-ic research on the impact of different weighting agents on the performance of white oil-based drilling fluids. Therefore, the size and morphology of ordinary barite, micromanganese ore powder and micropowder barite were analyzed by laser particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscope. The properties of ultrahigh den-sity white oil base drilling fluid formed by three weights separately and micromanganese ore powder and com-mon barite combined weights were compared. The results indicated that the microstructure and particle size of the weighting agent were the key factors leading to differences in drilling fluid performance. When the density was greater than 2.1 g/cm3,the rheological properties, lubricity and settling stability of the high density white oil-based drilling fluid configured with micro powder weighting agent was better than that of the ordinary bar-ite,but the middle pressure water loss was slightly higher. When the micromanganese ore powder was mixed with ordinary barite at the ratio of 1∶1,the filtration loss decreased from 6.0 mL to 3.2 mL,which made up for the defect of micromanganese ore powder only aggravating the large water loss of high density white oil-based drilling fluid. The combination of barite and micro powder weighting agent is the development direction of high density oil-based drilling fluids and ultra high density drilling fluids in the future.
