Functionalism and Humanism:Conceptualizing Libraries as Space and Place
Library is not only a physical space for storing books,but also a place with rich cultural implication and so-cial value.This paper discriminates and analyzes the concept of library as space and place,pointing out the confusion in the use of the concepts of"space"and"place".This paper deconstructing the internal logic of library as space and place from the perspective of functionalism and humanism,proposing a path and strate-gy for the transformation of library from"space"to"place".Finally,the paper points out the significance of discriminating the concepts of"space"and"place",and suggests that libraries should focus on users and ac-tivities rather than physical spaces,so as to truly practice the advanced concept of"human-centered".
