A Study of the Cultural Characteristics of Local Academies:Investigation and Research on the Historical Materials of Ancient Academies in Foshan
The ancient academy with a history of thousands of years have left behind lots of historical materials.As an important carrier of local characteristic culture,the historical materials of academies can witness the histori-cal evolution of a place and reflect its unique social,economic and cultural features in a certain historical pe-riod.The systematic organization and investigation of the historical materials of academies is not only neces-sary for tracing the roots of contemporary cultural values,but also a demand for the inheritance and develop-ment of the spirit of ancient academies.The historical materials of Foshan Academies are rich in content,covering the establishment and evolution,stakeholders,academic and academic regulations,funding sources and purposes,nature and functions,and writing and artistic works.Through thematic examination of these historical materials,it is found that the ancient academy of Foshan exhibits three main characteristics:the establishment and development of academies are closely related to the administrative establishment and so-cial,economic,and cultural development of various regions in Foshan;it is a product of the dual effects of the cultural roots of the academy in the local area;not forming a complete education chain.
