The modernization of industrial chains,as an important part of building a modern industrial system,is an urgent need to construct a new development pattern.Based on the inter-provincial panel data of China's logistics industry from 2010 to 2021,this study uses the entropy weight-TOPSIS method to measure the modernization level of the logistics industry chain.By employing Kernel density estimation, spatial Markov chains, coefficient of variation, and spatial econometric models,we explore the spatiotemporal evolution and convergence mechanism of the modernization level of the logistics industry chain. The findings reveal a steady upward trend in the modernization level of China's logistics industry chain. The absolute differences in the modernization levels of the logistics industry chain across the country and the eastern, central, and western regions have widened. The modernization level exhibits strong path dependence and a positive trend of shifting towards better types. While β convergence(both absolute and conditional)is observed at the national and regional levels,σ convergence is absent. We should recognize the gap in modernization development levels between regions, give full play to regional advantages according to local conditions, fully play the leading role of the government, stimulate the potential of market resource allocation, attach importance to the spatial correlation effects between regions, and harness the bridging function of industrial chain in social produc-tion.
