Clinical Investigation and Analysis of Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures
Objective To investigate the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures(OVCF)and analyze the influencing factors of OVCF refracture. Methods The clinical data of OVCF patients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University in 2022 were collected, and a retrospective analysis was conducted on their epidemiological and clinical characteristics.Patients were divided into the primary fracture group and the refracture group based on whether refracture occurred. The differences of gender, age,BMI and various laboratory indicators between the 2 groups were compared to analyze the influencing factors of refractures in OVCF patients. Results A total of 675 OVCF patients were included, with 117 males(17.3%)and 558 females(82.7%),resulting in a male-to-female ratio of 1∶4.77.The age range was from 50 to 96 years, with a higher prevalence among males aged 70 to 89 years and females aged 60 to 79 years. The proportion of overweight patients(23.1%)was 2.1 times higher than that of underweight patients(11.1%).Among the 675 OVCF cases,929 vertebral bodies were affected,of which a single vertebral body was the most common, and the location of fractured vertebrae was most common in the thoracolumbar region(T11—L2).There were 589 patients with primary fracture and 86 patients with refracture, and the incidence of refracture was 12.7%.Compared to the primary fracture group, the refracture group had significantly higher average age and proportion of overweight patients(P<0.05 and P<0.01,respectively),while the level of osteocalcin was significantly lower(P<0.01).Conclusion The findings suggest that the incidence of OVCF is higher among females compared to males, with the thoracolumbar segment(T11—L2)being the most commonly affected area, and overweight patients are more susceptible to OVCF.Advanced age, overweight, and low osteocalcin levels are identified as potential risk factors for refracture in OVCF patients.
