A Comparative Analysis of the English Translation Standards for the Terminology of Otological and Rhinological Disease Names in TCM
The article selects 38 Chinese terms for ear and nose diseases in Classification and Codes of Disease and Patterns of Traditional Chinese Medical-Disease Names(GB/T 15657-2021)as the object of study.Based on the latest version of the Chinese-English terminology standards for TCM issued by the three more authoritative bodies in the world(World Health Organization,Committee for Terms in TCM and World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies),the article classifies the names of ear and nose diseases in TCM into three categories,Category 1:the English translation is consistent,with a total of 11 terms;Category 2:the English translation is partially consistent,with a total of 20 terms;Category 3:the English translation is inconsistent,with a total of 7 term.The aim of this paper is to compare the English translation strategies,principles and methods of otology and rhinology terms in the three major standards,analyse their problems and the reasons for their formation,and focus on the differences between the translations of Category 2 and Category 3,with a view to providing reference for future research on the terminology standardization of disease names in TCM.
