Research Progress of Gardenia in the Prevention and Treatment of Liver Diseases and Mechanism of Action
Gardenia is the dried and mature fruit of the Rubiaceae plant Gardenia jasminoides Ellis.It is an authentic medicinal material in Jiangxi,containing iridoids,diterpenoids,flavonoids and other chemical components.Studies have shown that Gardenia has certain preventive and protective effects on various types of liver injury.The protective effect of liver injury is related to anti-oxidation,scavenging of free radicals,anti-lipid peroxidation,etc.,and participates in the regulation of multiple pathways.Therefore,this review systematically summarizes the application,function and mechanism of Gardenia in the prevention and treatment of liver diseases,and studies its research and development status.It is hoped that Gardenia can be provided a basis for development and utilization.
