Research Progress in the Treatment of Alopecia Areata withTraditional Chinese Medicine
Alopecia areata is a relatively common non-scarring inflammatory hair loss condition.It can be triggered by various factors,such as congenital deficiency leading to Qi and blood deficiency,irregular diet resulting in internal damp-heat,emotional disturbances causing stasis in the meridians,and compromised skin defenses allowing wind to attack the scalp.The nature of this disease is characterized by an underlying deficiency with superficial excess.The disease can be categorized into six syndrome types for treatment:liver and kidney deficiency,Qi and blood deficiency,blood deficiency with wind dryness,blood heat generating wind,liver depression with blood stasis,and damp-heat accumulation.This article summarizes the research progress in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)treatment for alopecia areata from various perspectives,including syndrome differentiation and treatment,specific herbal formulas,Chinese patent medicines,combined acupuncture and herbal therapy,and integrative TCM and Western medicine approaches,aiming to provide clinical treatment insights for alopecia areata.
