Diagnosis and Improvement of Middle School Students'Critical Thinking Ability—Discussion Based on the Eighth Grade Literature Text Reading Assessment
Based on literature texts,203 students from 3 middle schools in a certain place were taken as samples to evaluate and analyze the critical thinking ability of 8th grade students exhibited in the process of reading Chinese texts. The study found that the students'basic reading ability was good, but their critical thinking performance was poor.Specifically,in terms of questioning and inference elements, the students fail to distinguish the boundary between"questioning"and"appreciation"and their questioning strategy is mostly in a"spontaneous"state, while this strategy can help them construct appropriate arguments,it might not foster in-depth argumentation process and logic;in terms of appreciation and evaluation elements, appreciation ability shows advantages, students can understand the author's intention, but their annotation method is relatively simple, and their evaluation of text quality is one-sided;in terms of generation and reflection elements, they can make independent judgments and have a positive and open mind, but it is difficult to form in-depth or unique opinions, and their self-observation is not enough. In order to improve the critical thinking ability of middle school students,Chinese teachers should try to focus on the following aspects when carrying out reading teaching:to provide common question framework to improve the quality of students'questions;to explore the contradiction and conflict of texts to expand the boundary of students'cognition;to use visual thinking tools to improve students'metacognition and introspection ability.
