University as Infrastructure:Metaphor Generation and Value Implication
In the history of higher education, there are countless metaphors related to universities.Towards the end of the 20th century,a new metaphor of"(critical)infrastructure"gradually emerged in academic circles abroad. This metaphor was not generated out of thin air,but rather based on the subjective cognitive reconstruction of the cognitive subject's rich research experience, profound insight, and specific social situations regarding the functions and values of universities.Metaphors have a strong framing effect, which not only affects our understanding of real-life issues and situations but also guides us to generate creative solutions to problems."University as infrastructure",as a metaphor that is both creative and imaginative, can not only deepen our understanding and appreciation of the university's responsibility for cultivating talents, building a strong higher education country, promoting common prosperity through higher education, and the public nature of higher education and balanced development, but also help us creatively select problem solutions that are consistent with the implications of this metaphor.
