Re-understand the Essence and Function of Credit System and Grade Point Average System
The credit and grade point average system are widely used teaching management systems in both Chinese and foreign universities.After the reform and opening-up,Chinese universities first restored the credit system and then adopted the grade point average system.However,due to a lack of understanding of the essence and connotation of these two systems,their application has often overlooked their intrinsic value and orientation.Consequently,the implementation of these systems has gradually deviated from their essential functions,leading to the emergence of additional functions and the phenomenon of system alienation.This paper reviews the origins,connotations,and essence of the credit and grade point average system in both Chinese and foreign contexts.It identifies the alienation phenomena of these systems in Chinese universities and explores the underlying reasons.The paper also proposes strategies to correct these deviations,aiming to help universities return to the core nature of the credit and grade point average system and provide effective institutional support for cultivating top-notch innovative talents.
