Quantitative Research Methods in the Economics of Education:Review and Frontiers
The discipline of economics of education has both humanistic and scientific attributes,among which the scientific attributes make quantitative research play an important role in this discipline.Under the challenges and opportunities of the credibility revolution of empirical research and big data,quantitative research methods of educational economics are constantly changing.This paper reviews the development of quantitative research methods of educational economics from traditional econometrics to causal inference.Then we introduce the principles,advantages and disadvantages of machine learning and structural econometric models,and their application in economics of education.This paper is helpful for researchers in educational economics and other social sciences to understand the development of quantitative research methods and the latest trends,expand quantitative research tools and ideas,and select appropriate research methods for valuable research problems.
