The Heterogeneous Effects of Non-cognitive Abilities on the Income of Urban and Rural Households:An Empirical Study Based on China Family Panel Study (CFPS)Data
Using the 2018 China Family Panel Study(CFPS)data, selecting the Big Five Personality Scale to measure non-cognitive ability, and comprehensively utilizing the Ordinary Least Squares(OLS)method,Conditional Quartile Regression(CQR),Unconditional Quartile Regression(UQR),and Instrumental Variable Method(IVM),we empirically tested the heterogeneous effects of non-cognitive ability on the income of urban and rural householders. The study found that there is a significant difference between urban and rural household populations in terms of the return on income from non-cognitive abilities:non-cognitive abilities have a greater impact on the income of rural household populations compared to urban household populations, and non-cognitive abilities have a greater impact on low-income rural household populations than on high-income rural household populations. Therefore, the key role of education in solving relative poverty and blocking the intergenerational transmission of poverty should be fully utilized, and the function of financial compensation should be fully brought into play to strengthen the cultivation of non-cognitive abilities in rural education.Specifically,to emphasize the cultivation and enhancement of the non-cognitive abilities of low-income rural householders;to integrate the cultivation of the non-cognitive abilities of rural students throughout the entire process of rural education;and to strengthen the cultivation of non-cognitive abilities in the context of family education.
