The Intersection of Literature and History:a Study of Nineteenth-century English Governesses
Governesses played an important role in the history of British education in the 19th century.Because of the lack of traditional historical materials that directly reflect the life of the governess, the history of the governess has become an important research topic that has been neglected for a long time in the domestic educational community.Using literary works as historical materials,it is found that there are imbalances between family background and personal social status, salary level and career requirements, career investment, and later life situation of female teachers. In addition, they also have to face the narrow teaching space, complex teaching contents, and dealing with complex educational relations. The use of literature as evidence helps to break the discipline barrier, innovate the research methods, and enrich the research on educational history.
