Abstract
This paper explores the linguistic characteristics of English advertisements from both the rational and emotional aspects while taking the mission of advertising into account.Advertising language for rational appeals include three distinctive characteristics:directive,informative,and persuasive,while phatic,expressive,and evocative are other three features for emotional appeals.
