The"insufficient tightening"of high-strength bolts is one of the common safety hazards and accident causes in space grid structure using bolt ball joints.Therefore,an octagonal bolt ball joint for space grid structure was proposed and developed systematically.The composition,installation mechanism and main advantages of the joint were introduced.Based on the research results of the joint,the product standard of the key parts of the joint—Octagonal High Strength Bolts and Sleeves for Bolt Ball Joints(T/CSCS 011-2021)was compiled and published,and the main ideas and points of the standard were introduced.Finally,the application of this joint in the airside concourse roof grid of Zhuhai Airport Terminal Ⅱ was introduced,and a comparative analysis was conducted between the grid structure using this joint and the grid structure using welded ball joints.The results show that the mechanical properties and design indexes of the two types of grid structures are basically the same,and the economic performance of the octagonal bolt ball joint grid structure is better.The above standard and the first engineering application of the joint lay a good foundation for the promotion of the joint.
