Study on stability and bearing capacity of slender welded circular tube under axial compression
In order to study the stability of slender welded circular steel tube under axial compression,30 specimens were tested under axial compression. The characteristics of the instability deformation of the specimens were analyzed, and the relationship between the stability coefficient of the specimens and the stability curve in the Chinese code was compared. The finite element analysis of the stability bearing capacity was carried out considering the geometric initial defects and residual stress of the steel tube. The results show that the geometric initial defects of the slender welded circular steel tubes have a large discreteness, which are different from the values specified in the Chinese code. When the normalized slenderness ratio is in the range of 1.0~1.3,the stability coefficient obtained by the test is lower than the standard value, and the maximum difference is-24.4%.When the geometric initial defect is less than 1/500 rod length, the standard value can be used for design. When the geometric initial defect is greater than 1/500 rod length,it is recommended to re-establish the pressure bar curve. Finally, the stability curves of the slender welded circular steel tube under eight initial defects were given.
