Research status and expectation on basal heave stability of foundation pit
The safety factor of basal heave stability of foundation pit is one of the important indicators in the foundation pit engineering design. However,in practice, existing calculation methods are difficult to meet engineering needs, often leading to excessively high costs in foundation pit design. To promote the study of analysis methods for the basal heave stability of foundation pit,the problems in classical methods, current standard methods in China, and the limitation of safety factor were discussed. The improvements and developments of various calculation methods in recent years were summarized, considering factors such as the non-uniformity of soil strength, the embedded depth, stiffness, and bending strength of retaining structures.Conventional methods for calculating the basal heave stability of foundation pit do not consider the effect of the foundation pit width. Therefore, the research progress on the basal heave stability of narrow foundation pit such as subway stations and utility tunnels considering the effect of the foundation pit width was further summarized. The main discussion focuses on the improved failure modes and calculation methods for the basal heave stability of narrow foundation pit based on the bearing capacity mode and slip circle mode, aiming to provide references for the development of calculation methods for basal heave stability of foundation pit towards scientific, reasonable, and accurate directions.
