Experimental study on the basic mechanical properties of recycled aggregate block masonry containing brick particles
As the implementation of demolition and renovation projects in old urban communities,a large amount of recycled aggregates containing brick particles is generated, and its application to hollow block masonry structures is one of the effective ways of resource utilization. In order to study the basic mechanical properties of this type of block masonry, the compression and shear performance tests of masonry with different design parameters are carried out,and the damage characteristics and effect of block and mortar strength on its mechanical properties are analyzed. The test results show that, the masonry presents good ductility in compression, penetrated cracks are observed along the vertical seams on the wide side of the masonry when damaged in compression, and the narrow side cracks develop along the lap of the notched side. The masonry shear damage is dominated by the bond surface failure of the masonry mortar, with more obvious brittle characteristics. The compressive strength of hollow blocks masonry containing recycled aggregate of brick particles increases with the improvement of block and mortar strength, and the shear strength increases with the improvement of mortar strength.Based on the test results, the calculation formula of compressive and shear bearing capacity of block masonry with recycled aggregate containing brick particles is revised,so that it can better reflect the characteristics of the new material for engineering application reference.
