Ozone Reduction Characteristic of Bipolar Electrostatic Air Cleaner
The traditional electrostatic air cleaner has the disadvantages of high corona ozone generation when negative corona discharged,and low collection efficiency while positive corona discharged.Therefore,a bipolar electrostatic air cleaner was developed for indoor air purification.Based on the reaction kinetics of corona ozone and the numerical simulation results of electrohydrodynamics of bipolar corona electrode,the mechanisms of corona ozone reduction were analyzed.Theoretical analysis showed that the reaction rate of corona ozone generation was reduced in the bipolar electrostatic air cleaner as negative corona and positive corona exist simultaneously in the same electric field spaces,and the decreasing of free oxygen atoms by neutralization reaction.An experimental test system of bipolar electrostatic air cleaner was established,then the corona ozone emission reduction characteristics of bipolar electrostatic air cleaner were tested.The experimental results showed that the corona current was quadratic to applied voltage,and the corona ozone concentration was proportional to corona current of both unipolar corona electrodes and bipolar corona electrodes.The corona ozone concentration of bipolar corona electrodes was inversely proportional to flow rate.The corona currents of positive and negative bipolar corona electrodes reduced by 73.0%and 63.4%respectively,meanwhile the corona ozone concentration of those dropped by 54.0%and 31.7%respectively,in the electric field intensity of 4 kV/cm.It was concluded that the bipolar electrostatic air cleaner can be a promising air cleaning method in the field of indoor air purification.
