Continuity and Integration:Analyzing Works of DONG Dayou on Campus in Northwest China(1952-1955)
By inspecting DONG Dayou's university campus planning and architectural design works during his ten-ure in Northwest China from 1952 to 1955 under the background of"supporting the construction of Northwest China",this paper put forward the historical continuity of DONG Dayou's architectural style and design thought in this period.In DONG Dayou's design practice in the northwest of China in the early years of the founding of the country,based on local social,political,economic,cultural and technological factors,constantly adjusted be-tween"tradition and modernity",and innovated the exploration and practice of"Beaux-arts","Chinese traditional revival"and"modernism"in the Shanghai period to suit local conditions,and continued to explore the path of de-velopment of national and regional architecture with equal emphasis on"science","nationalism"and"art".DONG Dayou's works and ideas are an important legacy linking the architectural practices and theories of eastern and western China.
