ZANG Erzhong,Pioneer of Ancient Building Conservation Education
Mr.ZANG Erzhong devoted forty years to teaching at the Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering and Ar-chitecture(Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture).He integrated the research achievements of architectural history with practical experiences in ancient architectural conservation,dedicating his life's knowledge to the cause of ancient building preservation and the education of architectural heritage conservation.He achieved outstanding success in the fields of Chinese architectural history teaching,cultural heritage conservation talent cultivation,and practical preservation of ancient architecture.He was not only a pioneer and guide in architectural heritage conservation education at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture but also a representative figure of historians of historical buildings in China.On the occasion of his centenary,this article reviews his life,aca-demic achievements,and contributions to the discipline and industry,prompting a rethinking and introspection on the responsibilities and mission of educators and practitioners in architectural heritage conservation.
