Between the Research Object and the Research Goal:Research Methods of Ancient Chinese Architecture in the Routledge Handbook of Chinese Architecture:Social Production of Building and Spaces in History
This paper is a review of the methods of 12 research papers on ancient Chinese Architecture published in the Routledge Handbook of Chinese Architecture:Social Production of Building and Spaces in History.The original thesis was published in English while this is with some adjustments and published in Chinese now.The methods my summarized in the ancient architecture research papers outlined by the authors maybe include"gourd string","structural assemblage","sectional observation","interpretation","reasoning on design","studying the initial text"and"temporal semantic study",which can basically represent the path between the research object and the research goal.Since the authors of the original paper come from different countries,this review is conducive to understanding the different methods adopted by international scholars for the study of ancient Chinese architec-ture,and strengthening the prospect of the development of architectural history.
