In this article,we explore an important concept in public realm design in the discipline of the built environment,the construct of a magical,fascinating and wonder-evoking feeling.We describe this construct as the Enchantments of Design.Based on literature and case studies,this article describes and summarizes the rele-vance of Enchantment in contemporary public design,and theorize four strategies of its production in the design process.This theory of"Four Enchantments"is then explored using practical cases in a range of project types and backgrounds,to examine its applicability,characteristic of generation,tactics and outcomes.
