International and National:Modernism in National Architecture in Early-20th Century in the West
In the 20th century,Modernism Architecture encountered with nationalism and played an important role in the shaping of national identities of modern national-states,although the two tended to be exclusive and inclu-sive respectively.This paper aims to interpret the reasons of this very encounter of opposite sides,and enrich the discussion on the topic of architecture as political culture.On one hand,the time spirit represented by modern-ism Architecture reached an agreement with the ideology of some newly established nation-states,and became a means of shaping their national identities.On the other hand,with the internationalization of modern architec-ture,the international style gradually became a manifestation of mainstream discourse.Therefore,the"marginal"countries in the Western world followed up and chose it as their national architectural style.
