The Reciprocal Design Philosophy of Indian Female Architect Sheila Sri Prakash
Sheila Sri Prakash is the first female architect to establish an office in India.She pioneered and devel-oped the"reciprocal design theory",a concept of sustainable development for the whole process which was ahead of its time in proposing solutions to make India and the world more ecological,equitable and civilised.The theory emphasises respect for nature,the inheritance of indigenous cultures and balance of social classes.Through the study of her experiences,works and thoughts,the article analyses how Sheila achieved the goal of development on three levels:"city""society"and"architecture".Her theory and practice provide solutions to so-cial problems not only in India but also in China.
