War Hone:the Practice of Local Architects in the National Resources Commission and Its Impact on Occupational Demands(1937-1945)
The National Resources Commission(NRC)is the government organization responsible for the unified deployment of major strategic resources and the construction of state-owned industrial factories and mines during the Second Sino-Japanese War.Based on the historical perspective of the construction organization,confronting the impact of war,this study reviews design documents,technical contracts,communication documents and pre-cious images from both sides of the Taiwan Strait,combines historical data with field investigations,and restored the general picture of the collaboration of local architects in the NRC from 1937 to 1945.This paper focuses on the design practice and technical contribution of five architects,and further discusses the temporary influence of wartime industrial construction on architects'occupational demands in combination with the historical background of special period.
