The Effects of Coix Seed on Growth and Development of Drosophila
In order to provide a theoretical basis for the rational use of coix seed, using Drosophila melanogaster as the test material, different concentrations of coix seed medium(0%,10%,15%,20%)were set to explore the effect of coix seed medium on fecundity, male and female ratio, body weight, longevity and catalase(CAT)activity. The results showed that compared with the contral group, the number of pupae, eclosion, longevity and body weight all increased first and then decreased. When the tuntentation of coix seed ranged from 0%to 15%,the number of pupae, eclosion, longevity and body weight of fruit flies were gradually increased, and at 15%,the indexes were highest. The pupae and eclosion were 64.33 and 60.00 respectively and the life of female and male flies was 65 d and 62 d respectively, and the weight of female and male flies was 1.382g and 1.180g respectively. The activity of catalase(CAT)in Drosophila also increases with the concentration of coix seed. When the comountration in 20%,the activity of catalase is the highest, and the timale and male flies reach 15.77U/mg and 14.96 U/mg respectively. It can be seen that 15%medium favored the growth and development, and 20%improved the CAT activity, but it has no obvious effect on the ratio of male and female flies.
