The bellows expansion joint is an important pipe flexibility component, usually used in the case where the pipe is unable to absorb the loads such as thermal expansion or anchorage point displacement by its own flexibility. This paper provides a modeling method for axial bellows expansion joints in PIPESTRESS and an engineering application of using expansion joints to improve pipeline flexibility. It is based on the commercial nuclear grade piping calculation software PIPESTRESS for a nuclear power plant piping in the dead weight, thermal expansion, seismic, anchorage point displacement and other load conditions for stress analysis, given the spring hanger-damper program and expansion joints program for the two flexible arrangements, and respectively, according to the RCC-M standards for the evaluation of stresses.Calculation results show that the arrangement of expansion joints can effectively reduce the pipeline stress, absorb the excessive displacement load of the pipeline,so that the structure meets the specification requirements.Reference for the stress analysis of pipeline containing bellows expansion joints in PIPESTRESS software was provided.
