Thispaperaimsata rethinking of the topics of architectural theory as well as Chinese architectural theory in both international and Chinese contexts.Through a brief review of the evolution of architectural discipline and architectural theory in international context on one hand,and the canonic architectural treatises in China throughout times on the other,it looks into the necessity and the possibility of developing Chinese architectural theory not only through critical reinteroretation of traditional Chinese culture,but also by combining international theories with Chinese reality in a critical way,which to the end depends on the capacity as well as the strategy of coping with Chinese problems.
