Modern Localization of an Imported Technical Building Construction and Operation of the Former Grand Central Broadcast Station(1928-1937)
By a study of long duration with multi-perspective materials,this paper reveals the process of conceptualization,planning,design,construction,inauguration,and operation of the Zhongguang Grand Broadcast Station.It discovers that,in addition to technical influence,the considerations of urban planning and propaganda guidance of the Nanjing Nationalist Government,as well as the proactive choices of architectural styles local designers,collectively constitute a"modern local"context which profoundly affects the image construction of the Central Broadcast Station at the levels of"technological representation"and"propagandistic symbol".Furthermore,after the changes in technology and era,it reflects the perception of such technological buildings in the Chinese society in the 1930s.
