Unveiling the Socio-Spatial Dynamics:A Study on the Morphogenesis of Tabriz Grand Bazaar Complex
This paper investigates the spatial-social interaction logic underlying the morphological evolution ofthe Grand Bazaar Complex in Tabriz(lran),by means of ethnography and analytical mapping. It underscores the social organisation of the'Bazaaris'and their inscribed spatio-temporal rules, boundaries, and identities that shape bazaar life.Through such socio-spatial dynamism, the paper contends that the bazaar mediates the dialectical relationship between tradition and modernity and possesses the capacity to accommodate change. The case facilitates the identification of pervasive patterns of urban morphogenesis that are crucial for the preservation of trade cities along the Silk Road in China,West Asia, and the Middle East.
