Mystery of Orthogonality and Repetition in ChuandouRelationship of the Idea of Design-Fabrication between Ethnic Tujia's Timber Framing System and Silankarp Tapestry in West Hubei
The fabrication of Tujia's timber frames and their intangible cultural heritage Silankarp tapestry,reflect the idea of"cosmic craft"in cultural anthropology.Through field investigation and interviews with local craftsmen,this paper explores the association and intercommunication between the two art forms regarding the tectonic characteristics of materials and techniques,and the symbolization of geometry and symbol.It offers a new research perspective and non-material position for the interpretation of the ethnic Tujia timber framing structural system.Concerning the preservation and inheritance of vernacular architecture and cultural heritage,it proposes a concept of the cultural system for studying holistic cognition.
