Towards a"Liberated Architecture"Structural Intervention in Architectural Design Based on Small Houses of Kazunari Sakamoto Architectural Laboratory
This paper studies 14 small houses completed by Kazunari Sakamoto Architectural Laboratory to clarify the evolutionary logic of the three stages of its compositional themes.Based on the structural models and text analysis,it explicates the rhetorics and developments of the structural intervention in architectural design through 7 representative cases. In the end,it summarizes four architecture types and rhetorical strategies based on syntagmatic relations between structure and composition, revealing a design method of"liberated architecture",i.e.under the guidance of the design idea of"transcending the institutionalized ordinary to achieve another ordinary",through the basic method of"relativization"and rhetorical means, the structure is involved in the design as free"compositional material".
