This paper divides the past 70 years of Architectural Journal(1954-2023)into 3 stages,and summaries the research on the history and theories as well as design practice of traditional Chinese gardens with a remarkable focus on the key concepts of distinct characteristics:the first stage characterized by"space and composition",the second"artistic conception and spirit",and the third"interest and method".This study reflects the profound concern of scholars and architects for the traditional Chinese garden making and its contemporary significance.The understanding of traditional gardens has been developing continuously,which also plays an increasingly important role in contemporary Chinese architecture.
