Landscape Evolution along the Gaoliang River in Beijing through the Lens of Micro Linear Cultural Heritage
The Gaoliang River plays a vital role as a river system connecting the Beijing city with its western suburbs.Adorned with many cultural her-itage sites,it has the potential to be recognised as a distinctive linear cultural heritage.This article investigates the landscape evolution along the Gao-liang River across the entire geographical area of Beijing.The research reconstructs the spatial dis-tribution along the river by employing the genesis method from sociology and combining the analysis of archival records,historical paintings,and sur-viving sites from various historical periods.It also explores the dynamic processes and underlying causes of landscape evolution through the lens of'base-node-corridor-radiation area'.The research findings suggest that landscape evolution along the Gaoliang River has been shaped by the'natural base'and motivated by the'cultural base'.This evo-lution reflects the historical development of river systems and urban growth in Beijing.It serves as an example of urban landscaping and linear cultural heritage formation on a micro level.This research underscores the significance of constructing re-gional landscape structures and connecting various heritage sites along the Gaoliang River for the inte-grated conservation of linear cultural heritage.
