Spatial Archetypes of Hani Settlements and Houses under the Influence of Collective Unconsciousness:An Analysis of the Migration Epic,Hani Apei Congpopo
The collective unconsciousness of the Hani people,an ethnic group in southern China,is primarily documented in ancient epics and folk songs, showcasing distinct ethnic and cultural char-acteristics.This article analyses the text of the Hani apei congpopo,an epic that narrates the migration history of the Hani people, and conducts field re-search from an anthropological perspective to trace the origins of collective unconsciousness of the Hani people in Yuanyang County, southern Yunnan Province. The analysis suggests that throughout the process of ethnic migration and settlement establishment of the Hani people, three types of consciousness structures have emerged:'sanctity-secularity','male-female',and'life-death'.The article further examines how these consciousness structures relate to the spatial archetypes of plan layout, interior decorations, and ritual activities. The article argues that the Hani people's collective unconsciousness represents an organic integration between human, nature, deities, and the built envi-ronment,and the consciousness structures serve as a foundation for spatial archetypes.Under the in-fluence of spatial archetypes,Hani settlements and houses have embodied perceptual experiences of naturality, spirituality, order, and defence.
