Adaptive Construction Methods of Industrial Buildings in the Rear Area during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression:Exemplified by the Cave Workshops of Baoji Shenxin Yarn Factory in Shaanxi Province
Most building activities in the strategic rear area during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression(1937-1945)present adap-tive selection of construction methods.This article examines the cave workshops of Baoji Shenxin Yarn Factory in Shaanxi Province through archival research and field investigations,focusing on their adaptive construction methods adopted in the specific social context of wartime.The cave workshops adopted the form of tradi-tional cave dwellings,but with innovations and adaptations to ensure the safety of wartime air defence.They employed simplified construction methods to meet the demand for rapid construc-tion,using local materials to overcome the chal-lenges of disrupted supply lines,and adapting traditional structures to meet the standards of industrial production.Based on this case study,the article further provides reflections and inspi-rations for contemporary architectural design.
