Analysis of Ancient Cities’ Symbolic Spaces:Discussion about the Space Characters of Ancient Cities through the Case of Shanhaiguan
Shanhaiguan, as an ancient Chinese border city groups that served as frontier defending northern border of China against tribes from Manchuria throughout Chinese history conserves historical characteristics and visualizes high standards of Chinese art and architecture. The paper, using semiology for reference, analyses the representation mode of natural environment of Shanhaiguan under the influence of humanistic factors from the micro perspective, and natural environment and cultural background from the macro perspective. Space characters are interpreted through this method.
