The Impact of Life Events on Depression in College Students:The Chain Mediating Effect of Rumination,Self-depletion,and the Moderating Effect of Resilience
Objective Explore the relationship between life events and depression in college students, and examine the mediating role of rumination thinking and self-depletion,as well as the regulatory role of psychological resilience. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on 526 college students, and using the Simplified version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale,Adolescent Life Events Scale,Ruminative Response Scale,Self-Loss Scale, and adolescent mental resilience scale. Results Life events affect depression in college students through two pathways:an independent mediating effect of rumination thinking, and a chain mediating effect of rumination thinking and self-depletion.Psychological resilience plays a significant moderating role in the second half of the independent mediating effect of rumination thinking. Conclusion Life events do not directly affect depression in college students, but rather through the mediating effect of rumination and self-depletion on depression in college students. The prevention and treatment of depression in college students can start with reducing rumination thinking and improving psychological resilience.
