The study of four kinds of host preference on Sitophilus oryzae Linnaeus
Using Y-tube olfactometer, behavior response of Sitophilus oryzae Linnaeus to four kinds of host grains were tested. And effects of host grains on growth and development of S.oryzae Linnaeus progeny populations were determined. The results indicated that four host grains had strong behavior selection to the S.oryzae Linnaeus. When host from different groups were comparatively tested, the attraction of S.oryzae Linnaeus showed significantly the strongest host preference to sorghum, followed by brown rice, wheat, and avena sativa in turns. The effects of host grains on growth and development of S.oryzae Linnaeus progeny populations showed that the number of F1 generation population on each host had significant differences,in the following order was brown rice, avena sativa, sorghum, wheat; For the generation and development period,no significant difference between sorghum and avena sativa in addition, but there are differences significant between the other hosts,in the order of brown rice, sorghum, avena sativa, wheat.Because sorghum had strong attraction on S.oryzae,We can use the sorghum combination trap for trapping, monitoring and controlling them.
