The effects of non-crop vegetation on arthropod community in maize fields
The effect of non-crop vegetation in different habitat scales which include within-crop,within-farm and landscape levels on arthropod communities in maize fields was summarized. The way that non-crop vegetation takes effects on arthropod communities in maize fields varies with the different habitat scales. At the within-crop scale, weeds and other coveries benefit natural enemies and reduce the pest damage. But non-crop vegetation can also benefit pests. At the within-farm scale,non-crop vegetation can serve as the place for arthropods to rest, overwinter and prey, thus it acts as the convenient "pool" of natural enemies. At the landscape scale, the ratio of the area of non-crop vegetation to crop vegetation affects the dynamics of the arthropod community in maize fields. And some arthropods respond to the vegetation composition only at some specifical scale. The effect mechanism of the vegetation on arthropod communities in maize fields was analyzed, and some relative problems were discussed.
