Research progresses in the structure and function of insect optic lobe
Vision plays essential roles in insect behaviors, such as flight, host and mating partner detection, and oviposition site location. The optic lobe is the vision center in insect brain, with complex anatomical structure and neuron composition, which is important in receiving and integrating visual messages. However, the specific visual neural circuit and neural mechanisms have not been elucidated. This paper reviews the progress in research on the anatomical structure types, neurons constitution and the function in detection for color, polarization and motion;proposes the future research direction on insect optic lobe;aiming to provide theoretical basis for the adaptability of insect behavior to environment and behavior regulation of pest based on vision.
